MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRPERSON:

The Southern African Institute for Management Scientists (SAIMS) was established in 1988 with the purpose of promoting the interests of Management Scientists in Southern Africa and also act as a forum to discuss management education and research. Twenty seven years later this organisation is still the voice in Management Scientists!

The role of SAIMS is also to initiate and facilitate the collection and process of relevant information in the field of Management, and to make this information available to interested stakeholders by means of, amongst others, publications, an annual conference and contact between local and international Management Scientists in Southern Africa and abroad.

SAIMS has been known as the forum to discuss management education and research and there are a few exciting new developments that will be implemented in the coming years. Firstly, I am especially looking forward to the new prospects to be created by the SAIMS-Toyota cooperation managed by Prof Nic Terblanche. This cooperation will provide young and upcoming management academics with ample opportunities to improve their knowledge and skills in this field of study. Secondly, we will continue to build on our standing as Management Institute by broadening the diversity of our membership and number of members.

Thirdly, as the voice of management scientists, we will enhance communication with members by means newsletters and interesting news bits on the website. This will keep everyone updated on research, academic and industry happenings. Added to this, it is important for me to increase the Institute’s public and international profile.

A highlight on the SAIMS calendar is the annual SAIMS conference, hosted in 2015 by the University of Cape Town. This conference was a huge success and as board members we were very impressed with the quality of papers and presentations delivered at the conference. Make sure that you do not miss this one in 2016 in Pretoria!

I am looking forward to working with all of you in taking SAIMS to the next level. If you are not a member yet, I invite you to become part of this professional, pro-active, progressive and proficient Institute. Interact with us, send us interesting information to share with members and most important meet with us at the 2016 conference!
